About Christie
Christie Dawkins is a singing teacher, vocal rehabilitation specialist and professional performer with over 30 years of experience in vocal training and performance. She holds a Master of Music Studies in Vocal Pedagogy and a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), and also studied Jazz Singing at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.
This combination of musical training and understanding of human behaviour allows Christie to support singers both technically and personally in their vocal development.
Teaching Approach
Christie works with children, teenagers and adults, including both neurotypical and neurodivergent singers. Her lessons are tailored to the individual, creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable exploring and developing their voice.
Her teaching focuses on developing healthy vocal technique, expressive singing and confidence in performance, helping singers build both skill and enjoyment in their music-making.
Performance Experience
Alongside her teaching, Christie has performed professionally for many years and has sung for audiences both nationally and internationally. This ongoing performance experience allows her to bring real-world insight into the studio, helping singers develop not only strong technique but also stage presence and confidence in performance.
Student Success
Many of Christie’s students have gone on to study at leading performing arts institutions including NIDA, the Queensland Conservatorium, QUT and Brent Street.
Others have performed professionally in theatre productions around the world, on international cruise lines and in productions such as Moulin Rouge. Christie has also had students discovered through platforms such as Triple J Unearthed.
A Love of Music and Travel
Born in Zimbabwe, Christie has travelled extensively throughout her life, visiting more than 50 countries. These experiences have shaped her appreciation for music across cultures and traditions.
Her Christian faith is also an important part of her life and influences the compassion and encouragement she brings to her teaching.
Christie believes singing should be both technically healthy and deeply enjoyable, helping people of all ages connect with their voice, creativity and confidence.
